ANISHA CHOPRA

I'm Anisha Chopra, a double major in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. My work has been published in Shei Magazine and POSA, two incredible student publications.

Art has been a part of my life from an early age, starting with dance at three and later expanding into theater, painting, drawing, music, textiles, and jewelry-making. Dance and painting, in particular, allowed me to engage in political dialogue and use art as a tool for activism and storytelling to amplify diverse perspectives.

When I discovered photography during my senior year of high school, I felt an immediate connection to its ability to capture the nuances of the human experience. I began experimenting with self-portraits, using everyday objects to create expressive compositions that reflected my evolving personal style and creative voice.

In college, my photography flourished through collaborations with Shei and POSA, especially working alongside BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ students. Together, we create narrative-driven concepts that challenge viewers to see the world through different perspectives. My style now embraces a maximalist, eccentric aesthetic inspired by my Indian culture and intersections of identity, culture, and self-expression.

My passion for storytelling extends beyond photography into graphic design and social media, powerful tools for youth mobilization and advocacy. As a Special Olympics U.S. Youth Ambassador advocating for disability justice, I discovered the impact of strategic communication. This led to my current role as the Media and Marketing Assistant for Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services at UofM. I am also the Communications and Development Intern for the Women’s Congressional Policy Institute where I work to amplify the voices of women and girls while supporting bipartisan women's issues.
